#15 UMW Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Frostburg, 14-7, on Saturday in Snowy CAC Contest

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Frostburg State University, 14-7, on Saturday in Frostburg in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 9-1 on the season, and 2-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles jumped in front early, as sophomore Holly Hudson scored with 27:51 left in the first half. The Bobcats answered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead, before Emily Mott scored with 13:47 remaining, and senior Ashlyn Dacey followed 40 seconds later to return the lead to the Eagles at 3-2.

Frostburg knotted the score with 11:06 left before intermission, but UMW scored three straight, from Mackenzie Maguire, Mott, and Dacey, over the next five minutes to up the lead to 6-3. The two teams traded goals down the stretch, with Paige Childers and Kristen Kunaniec scoring for UMW, and the Eagles held an 8-5 lead at halftime.

In the second half, it was all Mary Washington, as Hudson opened the scoring with 24:40 left, and was followed by Maguire a minute later. Kelsey Vincent scored consecutive goals, and Mott and Julia Albert connected for scores to give UMW a 14-5 advantage.

The Bobcats scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes to cut the deficit to 14-7 at the final horn.

Mary Washington was led by Mott's three goals and two assists, while Vincent had two goals and an assist. The Eagles led in shots, 41-17, and in ground balls, 20-10. Hanna Ashby had three saves in goal for the Eagles, splitting halves with Kelsey Welsh.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they host Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m.
