Marson's Six Goals Lead UMW Men's Lacrosse to 14-6 Win at Randolph-Macon

Sophomore Mike Marson scored six goals and assisted on another to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 victory at Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles even their season record at 1-1.

The Eagles started strong in the first quarter, as Marson scored on a Miles Davis assist with 12:27 remaining. Jack Carver followed at 6:25 left on an Owen Dingman pass, and the Eagles upped the lead to 3-0 on a Dingman score with 1:47 remaining on a Carver assist.

In the second, the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 3-2 after a man-up goal and an even strength tally, but UMW stopped the momentum with a Davis goal with 7:12 left. The Eagles led, 4-2, at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice to open the third to tie the score, but Marson added goals at 7:27 and 1:15 left, the second coming on a Carver assist, to return the lead to two, at 6-4. RMC capped the quarter scoring to trim the lead to 6-5 heading to the fourth quarter.

After the teams traded goals to open the fourth, with Marson scoring with 14:36 left, the Eagles pulled away with seven straight goals to end the game. Marsons cored with 12:50 and 11:57 left, and Noah Dewey followed on a Dingman assist with 11:02 remaining.

Davis scored with 9:32 left on a Dewey feed, and Marson set up Dingman with 8:35 left. Marson scored on an Alec Turner assist with 2:35 to go, and Carver capped the scoring with a man=up score from Davis with 1:51 to go.

In addition to Marson's six scores and assist, Carver had three goals and two assists, and Davis had two goals and three assists. Dingman finished the day with two goals and two helpers.

The Eagles led in shots, 39-28, and won 17 of 23 faceoffs. UMW led in ground balls, 37-35. Sam Wasson had 10 saves in goal for UMW, while Brian Davies had 14 for RMC.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, as they host McDaniel College at 1:00 p.m.
