The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 decision at Frostburg State University on Saturday in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals, ending the year with an 8-8 record.

The Eagles jumped ahead in the first on a Miles Davis score with 9:00 remaining, on a J.D. West assist. The Bobcats tied the score with 1:47 left, but the Eagles regained the lead with 12 seconds left, as Greg Smith scored on a Davis assist, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead after one quarter.

The defenses stiffened in the second, as neither team would score in the opening 9:37. Frostburg tied the score with 5:23 left, but UMW answered back with a goal from Jack Carver with 3:36 to go. Frostburg scored with 2:23 left to tie the score heading to halftime at 3-3.

Frostburg took its first lead at 4-3, scoring with 13:56 remaining in the third, but the Eagles tied the score dramatically with six seconds left in the frame on a Davis score.

The Bobcats started the fourth quarter by seizing momentum back with the tying goal with 14:13 left, but the Eagles scored two straight to regain the lead. Carver scored on a Jared Krikorian assist with 11:00 left, and Krikorian gave the Eagles the lead less than a minute later unassisted.

Frostburg tied the score with 5:22 left, and found the eventual game winner with 4:41 to play. The Eagles hit the post with 3:39 to go, and fell down a man after a penalty with 2:03 to go. The Bobcats held on for the 7-6 win.

The Bobcats led in shots, 30-28, and in ground balls, 51-25. Freshman goalie Colin Bressan made 11 saves for the Eagles, while Geoff Quick, Travis Peed, and Chris Garcia each had three ground balls. Davis led UMW with two goals and an assist, while Carver added two goals.

The Eagles close the season with an 8-8 mark.
