Six-Run Seventh Propels UMW Baseball to 25th Win in 10-8 Decision Over Neumann

The University of Mary Washington baseball team scored nine runs in the final two innings, including six in the seventh, to take a 10-8 decision from Neumann College on Sunday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 25-5 overall, and increase their win streak to 12 straight.

The Eagles started the scoring in the first, as James Keller singled, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on a single from Jono Haught. The Eagles went hitless for five innings, while Neumann scored twice in the third, and once in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, to take a 5-1 lead.

In the seventh, the Eagles strung together seven hits. David Slupek singled, and Thomas Weaver followed by reaching on an error. Brian Burns followed with a two-run triple to right center. Kyle Bynum plated Burns with an RBI double, and scored the tying run on a Keller double.

Haught walked following a groundout, and Mitch Moynihan singled to left to load the bases. James Sink singled in the go-ahead run, and Slupek followed with an RBI single to up the lead to 7-5.

The Eagles added three runs in the eighth, as Keller doubled and scored on a Kime single. Haught walked, and Moynihan followed with a two-run double. The Knights scored three in the ninth, giving UMW the 10-8 win.

Keller had three hits, including two doubles, scoring three runs. Moynihan singled and doubled, and Slupek singled twice.

Sophomore Paul McClure pitched a perfect seventh in gaining the win in relief, as Weaver gained the save with two innings of work.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they face Marymount University in the first round of the CAC Tournament at 3:30 p.m.
