UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at #15 Washington & Lee, 14-5

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-5 decision at Washington & Lee University on Wednesday night in Lexington, Va. The Eagles fall to 2-2 on the season.

The Generals took control early, scoring the first four goals of the game before senior Jack Bondurant scored on a man-up opportunity with 7:10 left in the first quarter. After Washington & Lee scored again to close the first quarter, UMW scored two straight goals to cut the deficit to 5-3. Bondurant scored with 11:35 left in the second to move the score to 5-2, and Miles Davis scored on a man-up try with 8:51 remaining to move the score to 5-3.

The Generals scored twice to end the second and twice more to open the third quarter to assume a 9-3 advantage. Jack Carver scored on a Bondurant assist to close the third, and the Generals led, 9-4, heading to the fourth quarter.

Bondurant scored for the Eagles in the final frame, but W&L closed the game with four goals for the 14-5 win.

The Generals led in shots, 44-27, and in ground balls, 34-26. W&L won 14 of 23 faceoffs. UMW goalkeeper Pete Shammas had one save in one quarter, and Colin Bressan had 14 saves in 45 minutes for the Eagles.

Bondurant's three goals and one assist had a hand in four of UMW's five goals.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Southern Virginia University at 1:00 p.m.
