UMW Men's Soccer Falls to Salisbury, 4-2, in Saturday CAC Action

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dug itself an early hole and couldn't come all the way back in a 4-2 loss to Salisbury University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 10-5 on the season.

Salisbury opened the scoring at 20:03 on a goal from Nathaniel Eiben on a Michael Feeney assist. The Gulls ran the score to 2-0 on a Kendrick Michel score at 28:55, and held to a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second, Salisbury's Eiben scored again at 53:53 to push the lead to 3-0, and Brooks Zentgraf made the score 4-0 at 61:28 on a Taylor Groginski assist. From there, the Eagles spoiled the shutout at 70:49 on a Jack Saslowski header from Mitchell Williams, and freshman Robert Tata added another Eagle goal at 77:24 from Christian Trout on a free kick.

The Sea Gulls held a 12-11 advantage in shots, and UMW led in corner kicks, 6-3. Matt Spencer had three saves and Curran Smolinsky had two stops for the Eagles, while Drew Staedeli had one save for Salisbury.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College in a CAC contest starting at 3:30 p.m.
