The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team took down Regent in the Coast-to-Coast Conference semifinal game, 3-0, on Thursday afternoon in Salisbury, Md. to advance to the C2C championship game on Friday morning.
The Eagles 10th victory wasn't much of a challenge as UMW took 35 shots with 16 of them on goal, while the Royals' lone shot came in the 10', which was saved by
Johnathan Irani.
UMW, though, didn't net its first goal until the 28' when Gerrard Vayloi broke away down the field from his defensive zone. He found
Caleb Perry to the right of the box before Perry flicked it to first-year standout Andrew Brittian for his conference-leading 11th goal this season to finsh off the score.
The Ealges then netted their second goal in the 74' as
Darragh Cahill scored by himself to put the Eagles up by a pair, 2-0. The final score of the afternoon came just two minutes later when Brittain found fellow first-year Braden Kelly, who netted his eighth score of the season to seal the victory.
Elliot Berg, Cahill, Kelly and Perry led the way in chances with four shots each, while
Christian Rodriguez and
Michael Lenhard had a trio of shots as well. Irani and the backline led UMW to its seventh shutout of the season.
UMW is back in action on Friday at 11 a.m. to play Salisbury in the C2C championship game in Salisbury, Md.
