#14 Eagles Down Wesley, 20-7, on Wednesday; Move to 12-2 on the Year, Recording the Most Wins in School History

Fredericksburg, Va.—The #14 University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated Wesley 20-7  on Wednesday afternoon.  UMW used a 7-1 first quarter to pull away early. The Eagles improve to 12-2, 4-2 CAC on the year, recording the most wins in school history.

Luke Dick got the scoring started with a goal to put the Eagles ahead early. Mike Marson and Dick scored on back to back possessions to force a Wolverines timeout. John Bohlinger scored two of the next three goals for the Eagles, on assists from Joey Marson and Greg Smith to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead with 5:29 remaining. Sam Seibert got the lone goal for Wesley in the first, as the Eagles took a 7-1 lead after one.

Mike Marson scored on the opening play of the second quarter to increase the lead to 8-1. Luke Dick would add his third and fourth goals of the game with 7:02 to go before the break. Greg Smith, Chip Pittard and Chris Garcia closed out the half on a 3-0 run, as UMW took a 14-1 lead into halftime.

Charlie Webb put the game away early in the second half, scoring just ten seconds into the third quarter. After a Wesley goal, Matt Cherry got on the board to give the Eagles a 16-2 lead. Wesley rattled off two straight goals, but Joey Marson quelled the attack with a man up goal with 4:13 remaining. UMW cruised into the finish line, recording the most wins in school history with the 20-7 victory.

Zack DelGrosso recorded the win for the Eagles, making six saves and allowing one goal in 30 minutes of work. Pete Shammas made five saves in 22 minutes, with Tommy Fairbank closing out the game with two saves.

The Eagles close out the regular season at Marymount (Va.) on Saturday. Face off with the Saints is set for 1:00 p.m.
