The University of Mary Washington baseball team erupted for three eighth inning runs to break open a one-run game in an 8-4 victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Monday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 12-10 on the season.

After allowing an unearned run in the first, the Eagles plated two runs in the bottom of the frame, as Brian Burns singled, moved to second on a groundout, and stole third before scoring on a Jono Haught base hit. James Keller followed with a double, and Haught scored on a single by James Sink.

The Eagles scored twice more in the third, as Sink reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Connor Finnerty tripled home Sink and Nolan Gilbert. After EMU scored a run in the fourth, UMW answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, as Thomas Weaver doubled home Burns. The Royals cut the score to 5-4 with runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Eagles had three runs in the eighth, as Haught was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Keller followed with a two-run single.

UMW was led by Keller, who had a double and two singles and two RBI, and Haught, who went 1-3 with a run and two RBI, in addition to Finnerty's two-run triple.

The Eagles gained solid pitching from freshman Paul McClure, who allowed two earned runs on six hits in five innings, with no walks and three strikeouts. Cole Jarvis allowed two hits in three innings, and Bernie Mayflower and David Phillips combined for a spotless ninth.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Christopher Newport University at 3:00 p.m.
