The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader to eighth-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday at Dickinson Stadium to fall to 5-8-1 overall on the year, and 2-5 in CAC play. The Eagles were blanked in the opener, 5-0, before falling, 9-4, in the second game.

In a well-pitched first game, neither team scored in the first two innings. Salisbury plated three unearned runs in the third after a two-out error, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth (also unearned). Eagle pitcher Torey Mancari allowed one earned run on five hits in seven innings, with four walks and four strikeouts.

In the second game, Salisbury rushed ahead with two runs in the first, but the Eagles answered with two in the bottom of the inning, thanks to singles by Chris King and Brent Steffey and a double from Ben Sisk. The Sea Gulls added two in the third, one in the fifth, and four in the seventh, before UMW plated two runs on doubles from Connor Finnerty and King and a single from Connor Wells.

Senior Matt Abramson took the loss for UMW, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits in 6.2 innings, with one walk and four strikeouts. Junior Joe Carleton allowed one hit in .1 of relief.

The two teams will return to action on Sunday in the series finale at noon.
