Senior midfielder Catheirne Kennedy, senior attacker Lauren Callison, and junior goalie Kathryn Stiltz led the 18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team back from a 7-5 halftime deficit, and to a 14-10 victory at 11th ranked Catholic University on Wednesday in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament first round game. The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the season.

After Catholic opened the scoring, the Eagles responded with the next three goals, by Callison, Jenna Petrucelli, and Kennedy. The Cardinals responded by scoring four of the next five goals to take a 5-4 advantage with 11:10 remaining.

After Kennedy tied the score at five, Catholic scored two straight to take a 7-5 halftime lead. The Eagles started quickly in the second half, tying the score with two goals in the first 1:12 on tallies by Callison and Allie Kimmelman. After CUA went ahead, 8-7, Kennedy scored on a Kimmelman assist, and Callison scored unassisted to give the Eagles a 9-8 lead. The Cards knotted the score at nine, but Callison scored again to give UMW the lead for good at 10-9. In all, the Eagles scored five of the last six goals of the game for the four-goal advantage.

Kennedy had five goals and two assists, while Callison scored four times, including two that gave UMW the lead. Kimmelman added five assists to her goal, and Keller Torrey had a goal and two assists. Catholic was led by Katie Miller's two goals and two assists.

Defensively, Stiltz was stellar in goal,  making 13 saves, and helping to limit the Cardinals to just three second half goals despite taking 14 shots in the period. The Cardinals led in shots, 39-22, and in ground balls, 27-15.

Mary Washington will return to action on March 6 when they face Roanoke College in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
