Junior righty Torey Mancari struck out 14 hitters in seven innings to pace the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a 9-6 win at Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday to even their season record at 1-1. Freshman Brendan Jones, senior Brent Steffey, and freshman Chris King each had two hits for the Eagles.

The Eagles fell behind after three Royals runs in the second inning, but struck back with two in the third and four in the fourth to take a 6-3 advantage. UMW scored once in the seventh, and EMU scored once in the eighth. Both teams pushed two runs across in the ninth.

Jones went 2-4 with a single and double, while Steffey and King each singled twice. Senior Santino Rosanova went 1-1 with four walks, scoring two runs, and freshman Jonathan Haught went 1-4 with three RBI.

Mancari allowed three earned runs in seven innings, walking five and striking out 14 and scattering eight hits.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday for the home opener with a noon doubleheader against Randolph-Macon College.
