Straub Leads UMW Baseball Past Salisbury, 11-3, in CAC Tourney 2nd Round

Sophomore pitcher Michael Straub struck out a career-high 12 batters in 7.2 innings to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to an 11-3 win over Salisbury University in the second round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles advance to the weekend portion of the event with a 1-1 record.

The Eagles jumped ahead early with a run in the first, and never looked back, scoring twice in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, before scoring three times in the seventh and once in the eighth. UMW rapped out 14 hits, led by three each from Shane Sixsmith and Eric Rehbein, who singled, doubled, and homered.

Jackson Clement doubled and homered, scoring twice and knocking in three with his blast coming in the fourth. Brent Steffey also had two hits for the Eagles.

Straub was the story on the mound, striking out 12 in 7.2 innings, with five hits allowed and one walk issued. Two of the Sea Gull runs were earned. Straub has won all five of his starts this spring.

The Eagles will face Wesley College on Saturday in Salisbury at noon as the tournament shifts en masse to Salisbury.
