The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-7 decision at top-ranked Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in CAC play.
UMW reached the scoreboard first, and junior All-American
Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) scored less than a minute into play. From there, the Sea Gulls awoke to score the next seven goals of the game to take control. Junior All-American
Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) cut the Eagle deficit to 7-2, and Kennedy scored again to move the score to 7-3 with 14:23 remaining in the first half. Kennedy scored again sandwiched between a pair of Sea Gull scores, as SU led, 9-4, at halftime.
The Eagles started the second half by cutting the deficit to 10-6 on goals by senior
Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) and Kimmelman, but again Salisbury responded with another run, scoring seven straight to put the game away. Kennedy scored again with 5:55 left, on one of sophomore
Keller Torrey's three assists on the day.
Salisbury outshot the Eagles, 43-20, while junior goalie
Danielle Guigli (Wellesley, Mass., Wellesley) had 11 saves for UMW. The Eagles will host York College in another CAC game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
