UMW Women's Soccer Falls at York in OT, 2-1

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead into the final minutes of regulation at York College in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday, but the Eagles fell, 2-1, in overtime to the Spartans. UMW falls to 7-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in CAC play.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles found the nets first on a goal by sophomore Kelsey Carter at 54:22 on an assist from junior Excy Herrera. UMW carried the lead until 1:04 remaining, when York's Jordan Snook tied the score unassisted. Once into overtime the Spartans scored the game winner at 95:52 as Jena Arnister netted the decisive score.

The Spartans led in shots, 18-15, and had four corner kicks to UMW's three. Each team had nine fouls, and UMW goalkeeper Tina Brehm had six saves in defeat.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they host Hood College in another CAC contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
