The University of Mary Washington men's and women's soccer programs had a combined four players named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region VI teams in an announcement from the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
On the women's team, senior defender
Natalie Anderson and junior forward
Maci Landel earned First Team honors, while senior midfielder
Ellen Shine picked up Second Team honors. On the men's side, senior forward
Sammy Amorose earned First Team honors.
For Landel, Tuesday marked her third consecutive All-Region award from the USC as she was named to the Third Team in 2023 and to the Fourth Team in 2024. Landel earned All-Coast-to-Coast Conference First Team honors this past season. She recorded a conference-best nine goals and 11 assists en-route to leading the Eagles' offense to their Elite 8 finish this past season.Â
Anderson, meanwhile, earns her an All-Region honor for the second consecutive season after being named the Coast-to-Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year this past fall. Anderson led the backline to 16 shutouts -- tying a program-best set back in 1997. This past season, she logged nearly 1,800 minutes as a captain on the backline, leading the Eagles to their first Elite 8 appearance since 2004 and their most wins (14) since 2002.
Shine was named to the All-Region team for the first time in her career after scoring five goals and coming away with two assists this past fall. She played a career-high of nearly 1,300 minutes on the pitch, earning All-Coast-to-Coast First Team honors.
On the men's side, Amorose was named to his second career All-Region team after taking home First Team honors a season ago. He was named the C2C Offensive Player of the Year after scoring seven goals (fourth most in the C2C), while adding six assists (most in the conference). He came away with 20 points -- third best in the C2C, while continually drawing the opposing team's top defender and consistent double-teams due to his scoring prowess.
