UMW Women's Soccer's Maci Landel Earns All-American Honor

The University of Mary Washington's Maci Landel was named to the United Soccer Coaches' All-American Second Team on Thursday evening, the organization announced in a release. The junior forward earned All-American status for the first time in her career.

For Landel, she was the engine that powered the Eagles' offense on the way to the team's first Elite 8 appearance since 2004 after scoring nine goals and adding 11 assists. She earned her third consecutive All-Region nomination earlier this week, as she was named to the All Coast-to-Coast Conference First Team when the regular season concluded.

Landel led the Eagles' offense to their most wins (14) since 2002 and helped the defense record 16 shutouts, which tied a program-best set back in 1997. She had an almost unbelievable run of scores earlier this season when she netted seven goals in four games. She began that run with a score against Salisbury on October 18 before following up the next day with a hattrick against Regent. Later in the week she netted a pair of goals against McDaniel on Oct. 22, then closed her run with a goal against St. Mary's on Oct. 25.

She netted a pair of assists in the Eagles' NCAA Second Round draw with Williams, assisting on the game-tying goal in the 87th minute before knocking in the second-to-last penalty kick for the Eagles that sent them past Williams into the Sweet 16.

Landel played all 90 minutes in the win over Penn State-Harrisburg in the Sweet 16 before playing 88 in the Elite 8 loss to Tufts, totaling over 1,700 minutes spent on the pitch for the All-American this season.
