Box Score
Senior attacker Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) scored six goals and sophomore attacker Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) added two goals and five assists to pace the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team in an 18-8 win over Drew University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at the Battleground on Wednesday. The Eagles improve to 13-5 on the season, and will advance to the second round for the second straight year, and will face either Elizabethtown College or Washington & Lee University on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa.

The Eagles quickly jumped ahead, as sophomore All-American Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) netted a pair of goals on Kimmelman assists, and Butler, Kimmelman, and freshman Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga., Centennial) scored consecutive goals to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game. After Drew scored with 22:04 remaining, the Eagles scored another five straight to assume a 10-1 lead with 14:23 to go in the first. Butler scored twice in the run.

Drew would score four of the next five goals to cut the deficit to 11-6, but Butler and sophomore Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) each scored to close the half, giving UMW a 13-6 halftime lead.

The second half saw both defenses settle down, as Drew scored the first and last goals of the half, with UMW scoring five in between for the 10-goal victory. Butler scored twice in the second, while Kennedy added a pair of assists. Torrey added a goal and an assist in the second 30 minutes.

Mary Washington outshot Drew, 33-25, and had 33 ground balls to 23 for the visitors. The Eagles were successful on 4-6 free position attempts. Freshman Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) made eight saves for the Eagles.

Sophomore All-CAC midfielder Ellen Bikowski (Fairfax, Va., Bishop O'Connell) added nine ground balls and four caused turnovers for UMW, while Torrey snared a team-high five draw controls in addition to her two goals and one assist.
