Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UMW Men's Soccer Beats Whitman, 3-0

After a delayed start and a 50-minute weather delay, the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team took down Whitman on Friday evening, 3-0, in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Eagles and Blues were scoreless going into the weather delay that came just seven minutes into the game, but UMW wasn't phased as Elliot Berg took a pass from Gerrard Valoyi in the 18' to put Mary Washington on top by a goal early in the first half, 1-0. In the first half, the Eagles put the pressure on the Blues' defense early as it took 11 shots compared to Whitman's seven.

Coming out of the half, a handball in the box yielded the Eagles their lone penalty shot of the night. Valoyi wound up on the PK and netted UMW's second goal of the night in the 59' -- his first goal of the season. And the final UMW goal came on a ball that was bouncing towards the near corner before Darragh Cahill was able to find Braeden Kelly in the 75' that put Mary Washington up by three goals late.

Zaine Asim played all 90 minutes in net for Mary Washington as the junior keeper recorded five saves and his second clean sheet of the season.

For the day, UMW posted 26 shots, compared to Whitman's 12 with 16 of them being on-net. Andrew Brittain let the team with six shots, while Kelly recorded five of his own. Elliot Berg and Valoyi each had a trio of shots as well.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday against North Carolina Wesleyan at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. at 1 p.m.
