The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team used another
Maci Landel game-winner to earn another victory as the Eagles moved to 6-1-1 this season after downing Stevenson, 2-1, in Stevenson, Md.
The Eagles got their first goal on
Taylor Garofalo's second of the season in the 32' -- giving the Eagles a lead heading into the half in which they dominated possession as they out-shot Stevenson, 8-2. The Eagles forced the Mustang kicker to record four saves as
Layla Royster (twice), Landel, and
Elise McGee all put pressure on the defense.
In the second half, Stevenson tied the game in the 48', but it was Landel's right boot that saved the day again for the Eagles. On Wednesday, Landel recorded her first game-winning goal of the week as the senior forward found the back of the net in a 2-1 win in the last few minutes of the game. The late drama this time, though, wasn't needed as Landel netted the go-ahead goal in the 55'.
But the game was far from over as keeper
Emily Orn had to record a save in the 69' and the 87' to seal the victory for the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
Mary Washington is back in action on Wednesday at NC Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, NC. First touch is set for 3:30 p.m.
