The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept a 3-0 decision at Catholic University, 25-16, 25-14, 25-19, on Wednesday night at the DuFour Center. The Eagles improve to 3-3 on the season.
A 7-0 run near the end of set one gave UMW a comfortable lead they would close out. Similarly, a 7-0 run pushed a tight second set to a 20-8 Eagle advantage, with a kill from junior
Alice Holoubek closing out the set. In the third, Catholic was within striking distance, until kills from senior
Natalie Brown and sophomore
Mackenzie Williams started another run to close out the match.
Brown led the Eagles with nine kills in 17 attempts, while Holoubek posted eight kills against one error in 11 chances. Sophomore
Kathleen Harbaugh added six without an error. Freshman
Sofie Ferrell led with 22 assists and three aces, and Harbaugh added three blocks.
Naomi Decker,
Julia Gustafson, and
Jocelyn Fang each recorded eight digs.
The Eagles will host St. Mary's College on Tuesday in the home opener, starting at 6:00 p.m.
