Maura Schroeder paced a balanced attack with four goals as the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Bridgewater College, 13-3, on Wednesday night in Bridgewater, Va. The Eagles improve to 9-7 on the season.
Bridgewater jumped ahead in the first minute of the game, and held the lead until midway through the first. Sophomore
Sadie Laughlin evened the score, and that swung the momentum for the visitors. Laughlin then scored on a free position shot at 3:39 to put UMW ahead, and Schroeder scored her first with 2:02 on the clock. Junior
Abigail Fisher followed with another free position score, at 1:29.
In the second quarter, it was all UMW, as Schroeder opened the frame with a pair of scores, at 14:15 and 13:10.
Annabelle Buck followed less than a minute later, and
Kimber Konen and Laughlin added late scores to push the lead to 9-1 at halftime.
UMW continued to roll in the third, as
Ava Windham scored in the opening minute, and was followed by Schroeder at 6:05 on an
Ashley Firesheets assist, and Windham again at 3:00.
Bridgewater outscored UMW, 2-1, in the fourth, with junior
Gracie Fugleberg adding the UMW score.
Mary Washington led in shots, 34-9, and caused 28 BC turnovers.
Cece Van Blenis made three saves allowing one score, and
Lila White posted two saves while allowing two.
The Eagles will close the regular season on Saturday at Dickinson College at noon.
