The University of Mary Washington softball team was swept by Marymount on Tuesday afternoon in Arlington, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles fall, 3-1.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Eagles fell behind by a run early, but were able to tie the game in the sixth inning when
Bayly Yerigan scored on a throwing error by the catcher. But two Marymount runs in the bottom half gave the Saints the victory.
Maeve Haun,
Emily Angel, and
Emily Mousso all picked up hits for UMW. Meanwhile in the circle, Stephanie Csonts was solid, tossing six innings, while striking out six on 91 pitches.
Game 2 - Eagles fall, 12-4.
In the second game, UMW took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when
Linsey Spillman singled home Angel, but a nine-spot in the bottom half gave Marymount a lead it wouldn't give back.
The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the fourth on a Haun RBI single, then on a Yerigan ground out to claw back, 9-3. But the Saints added two more runs in the bottom half. In the fifth,
Shelby Presgrave scored on a wild pitch to cut into the gap, 11-4.
Haun, Angel,
Lindsey Poole, Spillman, and
Kennedy Darling all recorded hits for the Eagles in the game.
UMW is back in action on Saturday as the Eagles head to Salisbury to take on the Sea Gulls. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
