UMW Women's Lacrosse Rolls Warren Wilson, 21-1, on Senior Day

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 21-1 win over Warren Wilson College on Saturday afternoon on senior Day at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-6 on the season.

UMW started quickly, as Sadie Laughlin scored on an Ashley Firesheets assist at 13:36, and Maura Schroeder followed at 12:21 on another Firesheets feed. Kimber Konen added another at 11:31 on an Abigail Fisher assist. Schroeder added her second of the day on a Fisher pass at 10:15, and then fed Ava Windham for another at 9:34. Konen and Anna Dube added unassisted scores before Fisher found WIndham to up the lead to 8-0 with 4:19 left in the first. Dube scored again at 1:31 from Konen, and Firesheets ended the quarter with a goal assisted by Laughlin.

The Eagles added four unanswered scores in the second. Anna Currey scored at 14:24 on a pass from Summerlin Gates, who followed with a goal of her own at 7:41 on an assist from her twin sister Molly Ryan Gates. Daelyn Gregory upped the lead to 13-0 on another Gates assist at 4:55, and Gracie Fugleberg ended the second with an unassisted tally at 3:06.

Makenna Hadden scored the first goal of the third at 8:00, and after a Warren Wilson score, Sophie Hubbard scored on a Konen assist at 1:08, and Reagan Makfinsky added another at 40 seconds left on a Firesheets assist.

In the fourth, UMW added goals from Katelyn Hua on an Ella Santilli assist at 1:31, Molly Ryan Gates at 7:03, Jules Lara at 4:39, and Fisher at 3:32 on a Fugleberg feed. Fisher surpassed the 100 point career mark in the game and tied Firesheets and Konen for the team lead with four points.

UMW led in shots, 47-5, and ground balls, 25-11. Cece Van Blenis had a clean sheet with 15 minutes of scoreless keeping, while Lila White added 45 minutes of relief, making one stop.

The Eagles will be back in action on April 18 at #24 Christopher Newport University at 12:00 p.m.
