UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls, 16-12, at Stockton in CLC Action

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-12 decision at Stockton University on Saturday afternoon in Coastal Lacrosse Conference play. The Eagles slip to 6-7 overall, and 1-3 in CLC action.

UMW started swiftly, as Jackson Rhodes scored at 13:40 of the first quarter unassisted. Sophomore Vince Reaver upped the lead to 2-0 at 12:13 on a Dave Votapek assist. Stockton rallied for three goals to take the lead, but Votapek scored on a Tanner Boone assist at 5:11 of the first. Stockton seized the lead with two scores, but the Eagles rallied for a pair of goals in a 16 second span to tie the score at 5-5. Freshman QUinn Weaver scored at 3:55 on a Kyle Marshall assist, and Marshall followed 16 seconds later to knot the score at 5-5 after 15 minutes.

After the Ospreys took the lead to open the second, UMW reeled off five straight scores. Logan Klingler scored at 11:37, and Votapek followed a minute later on a man-up chance. Boone scored on a Reaver assist at 9:07, and Votapek scored at 7:55 on an assist from Christian Fleming. Boone capped the rally at 6:24. Stockton closed the gap to 10-8 before Reece Stone scored for UMW on a Votapek feed. UMW led, 11-9, at halftime.

In the third, Stone scored at 12:19 to start the proceedings, but the Ospreys scored five straight of their own to take a 14-12 lead after 45 minutes. Stockton added two more in the fourth for the 16-12 win.

Stockton led in shots, 49-27, and ground balls, 34-28. UMW goalkeeper Ryan D'Angelo made 17 saves on the day.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday when they host Ursinus College for senior day at noon.
