The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-9 decision at Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday night in Hoboken, N.J. The Eagles fall to 1-4 on the season.
The Eagles scored first, as
Sadie Laughlin scored five minutes into the game on an assist from
Ava Windham. The Ducks responded with three straight to lead, 3-1, after the first quarter. In the second,
Abigail Fisher scored a pair of goals in the opening minutes to tie the score, but Stevens again rallied by scoring a pair of goals, sandwiched by another Fisher goal, to lead, 5-4, at halftime.
The teams started the third by trading goals, with Laughlin and Fisher scoring for the Eagles, before Stevens added a trio of goals to up its lead to 10-6 through 45 minutes. After Stevens scored two to open the fourth, the Eagles closed the game with three goals, with two from
Ashley Firesheets and another from Fisher.
Stevens led in shots, 32-21, and won 15 of 22 draw controls.
Cece Van Blenis made 10 saves for the Eagles.
The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they host Nichols College at noon.
