The University of Mary Washington softball team slugged its way to a pair of victories against Randolph College on Wednesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles win, 10-0.
The Eagles put together a pair of five-run innings in the first two frames to put the Wildcats away early. In the first,
Emily Angel singled home both
Bayly Yerigan and
Maeve Haun to put UMW up by a pair three hitters into the home half of the inning. Next,
Shelby Presgrave lifted a sac fly to score Angel to push the lead to 3-0. Then,
Mia Farhat followed with an RBI single that scored
Allyson Jones before
Linsey Spillman added an RBI single to close out the frame, 5-0.
In the second, Angel singled through the left side to score Haun, before Jones reached on a throwing error that allowed her to move to third, while allowing a pair of runs to score, 8-0.
Emily Mousso followed with an RBI single before
Qiana Holmes added a sac fly to push the lead, 10-0.
Stephanie Csontos picked up the win as she tossed three innings in the five-inning victory, yielding just one hit and striking out four. Meanwhile
Charlotte Daniels tossed the last two innings before closing out the victory.
Game 2 - Eagles win, 14-2.
In Game 2, UMW found itself down a run, but responded with three in the bottom half. Yerigan scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one before
Shelby Presgrave doubled a run home to push the lead to 2-1. The final run came to score when Randolph's center fielder dropped a fly ball that allowed Presgrave to score, 3-1. In the second, Haun singled home Jones, 4-1, which was followed by an Angel two-run homer to push the score, 6-1.
In the third, Haun doubled a pair of runs home before Angel legged out a triple on a deep fly ball to center that scored Haun, 9-1. Then,
Lindsey Poole singled home Angel before Presgrave closed the inning with an RBI single of her own. In the fourth, Holmes picked up her first career hit on a two-RBI single before Angel lifted a sac fly to end the scoring, 14-1.
Sofia Ponce pitched the first two innings before handing the ball to
Anna Dobson, who closed out the last three frames.
The Eagles are back in action on March 31 at 2 p.m. against Stevenson in Stevenson, MD
