UMW Baseball (RV) Splits Doubleheader with No. 18 Gettysburg

In their second ranked matchup of the week, the University of Mary Washington baseball team (RV) split a Saturday doubleheader with No. 18 Gettysburg in Columbia, Md.

Game 1 - Eagles fall, 5-2.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, UMW jumped out ahead with a run in the top of the first when William Tuttle lead the game off with a home run into right center. But in the second the Bullets scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Eagles countered for a run in the sixth on Ryan Henson's RBI single that plated Collin Clarkson to cut into the lead, 3-2, but Gettysburg added a run in the sixth and eighth.

Game 2 - Eagles win, 5-3.

In Game 2 the Eagles claimed their second Top 25 victory of the season, but the scoring didn't start until the fourth inning when Connor Hassan reached on a single that scored Oliver Martin to put UMW ahead, 1-0. In the same frame, Ryan Henson reached on a sac fly that was dropped by the right fielder, driving in both Hassan and Clarkson to push the lead to 3-0.

A pair of Gettysburg runs cut the UMW lead to just 3-2 in the seventh, but UMW added a run on an Eric Powell RBI single, 4-2. In the top of the ninth, Hassan plated his second run of the day on an RBI single down the right field line, 5-2.

Gavin Riley was fantastic on the bump for UMW as he tossed 6.2 innings of two-run ball as he moved to 3-0 this season, while Noah Ezzie picked up his third save as he recorded all three outs in the ninth inning.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as they take on Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Va.  at 4 p.m.
