The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-5 decision at Haverford College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 4-3 on the season.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, as
Reece Stone scored on a
Tanner Boone assist with 11:18 left in the first quarter. But the Fords responded with three tallies to close out the first with a 3-1 advantage.
Haverford scored three straight to open the second quarter, appearing to take a 6-1 lead to halftime after scoring with ten seconds left. But UMW's
Jacob Fowler scored on a Stone assist after winning the faceoff to move the margin to 6-2 at intermission.
The Eagles climbed back into the game in the third, starting with a
James Milligan goal assisted by Boone at 9:42.
Antonio Zeno followed with another score at 8:18, and
Vince Reaver added another four minutes later on an assist from
A.J. Lembo to pull the Eagles to within 6-5. But the Fords scored once to close the third, and three more in the fourth, for the victory.
Haverford led in shots, 37-30, as well as ground balls, 41-37. UMW goalkeeper
Ryan D'Angelo made nine saves on the day.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Catholic University at 6:00 p.m.
