The University of Mary Washington baseball team bounced back after a 7-1 loss in Game 1 to take a 4-2 win over Ithaca in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Bombers in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Eagles fell behind by a run in the first, before tying the game in the top of the second when
Connor Hassan scored with two outs. In the third, the Bombers went up another run, but UMW struck back for good in the later innings.
In the top of the fourth, the Eagles tied the game at two on
William Tuttle's RBI single, then took the lead in the seventh on a Hassan RBI walk before
Oliver Martin scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the frame.
Mary Washington received a solid start from
Gavin Riley, who tossed six innings of two-run ball, holding Ithaca to just five hits and two walks -- only one of the runs was earned, however.
Matthew Caldwell recorded his first save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth.
Mary Washington is back in action on Sunday afternoon to wrap up its Myrtle Beach trip against Colby-Sawyer at 12 p.m.
