Angel's Walk-off Home Run Propels UMW Softball to Sweep Over Methodist

The University of Mary Washington softball team swept Methodist after run-ruling the Monarchs in Game 1 before Emily Angel walked-off her former school with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh in Fredericksburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles win, 8-0

The Eagles started off the scoring with a double steal of second and home as Maeve Haun took off for second while Ari Briddle took home in the second. Then Shelby Presgrave tripled a pair of runs home to push the score to 3-0 in the third. In the same inning, Mia Farhat drove a sac fly to center field that scored Presgrave to cap off the inning, 4-0.

In the fourth, Angel singled home Haun, 5-0, and set the Eagles up to score three in the final frame to run rule the Monarchs. In the fifth, Linsey Spillman singled home Presgrave before Kennedy Darling drove home Allyson Jones on a sac bunt that pushed the lead to 7-0. And to cap the game off, Haun reached on an infield single that drove Biddle home to give UMW its first "walk-off" of the day.

Sydney Jester picked up the win after tossing 3.1 innings before Stephanie Csontos tossed the final five outs to preserve the shutout.

Game 2 - Eagles win, 6-5.

In Game 2, UMW trailed by three by the third inning, but Angel singled home Bayly Yerigan to cut into the lead, 3-1. In the fourth, Jones doubled home Presgrave to cut the lead down to just a run, 3-2. But in the fifth, the Monarchs added to their lead, 4-2.

In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles tied the game as Angel picked up her second RBI knock of the game before Erica Shoop flew out, but an errant throw back in brought in a run that tied the game at four apiece.

In the sixth, Methodist took the lead on an errant throw by Angel, but she made up for it by hitting the game-winning, two-run home run.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday with a matchup against the University of Maine, Presque Isle at 11 a.m.
