The University of Mary Washington softball team split a doubleheader with Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon as it fell in the first game before
Erica Shoop walked-off Game 2 with an RBI double in Fredericksburg, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles fall, 4-1
In Game 1, UMW fell behind by a run in the second and couldn't recover as the Hornets put two more in the third and then one more in the fourth. The Eagles added a run in the seventh when
Emily Mousso drove a single that scored
Shelby Presgrave.
Sydney Jester was solid in the circle for UMW as she tossed four innings of one-run ball, yielding just five hits.
Anna Dobson, too, was solid after yielding just one run in 2.1 innings of work. Mousso collected two hits, while Presgrave had the other of the three hits for UMW.
Game 2 - Eagles win, 4-3
In Game 2, the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Mousso drove in a run on a fielder's choice, which was followed by Ari Briddle's sac bunt that allowed
Allyson Jones to score in the second. In the third, UMW added its third run when Shoop singled to shortstop and drove in
Emily Angel.
Lynchburg scored three runs to tie it -- two in the fifth and one in the sixth -- as
Cierra Foss was solid in the circle, yielding three runs (two earned) in her five innings of work. But in the seventh, the Eagles would storm back to win the game as Angel doubled with one out before Shoop doubled to center to drive in Angel and win the game.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday against Roanoke at 1 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
