UMW Women's Basketball Downs Salisbury, 61-47

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team handled Salisbury for the second time this season on Saturday in a convincing 61-47 win over the Sea Gulls in Fredericksburg, Va. Juliona Mabie (21 points) and Jenna Steadman (20) combined to lead the offensive attack as the pair combined to shoot 15-for-22 from the field that included three Steadman treys in the victory. Emma Terry added 10 points on a 5-for-9 day from the floor as well.

Saturday's action started off slow for the Eagles, who trailed 17-11 at the first quarters end. But after some adjustments, the Eagles were dominant on both ends of the floor. In the following three quarters, the Sea Gulls scored just 30 points. The Eagles went into the halftime up by a point, 29-28, after holding Salisbury to just a 4-for-19 mark from the floor (21%) before taking a bigger lead at the end of the third quarter, 47-34. In that third period, UMW held Salisbury to just a 3-for-16 line from the floor (18.8%). And in the fourth quarter, UMW ran away with the victory.

For the game, UMW led the way on offense as it shot 24-for-49 from the floor (49%) that included knocking down four of its nine 3-pointer's (44.4%). Meanwhile, Salisbury was just 19-for-64 (29.7%) and just 3-for-25 from deep (12%). Too, UMW dominated on the boards as it came away with a 40-31 advantage. The Eagles forced 16 turnovers, coming away with seven steals and had 16 assists on their 24 made baskets.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at No. 3 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
