The 11th ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team saw four players reach double figures in downing rival #8 Christopher Newport University on Saturday evening at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 19-3 on the season.

Kye Robinson cut the margin to 9-7, and two more baskets from Robinson gave the Eagles their first lead, at 11-9 with 13:29 left in the first half.
A three pointer from Robinson pushed the Eagle lead to 16-12, but the Captains regained the lead at 9:04 on a pair of free throws. The lead would change hands three times in next few minutes, but a three from junior

Preston White, and a pair of Robinson free throws gave UMW a 25-19 advantage.
After Randall made a pair of free throws to up the lead to eight, the teams traded baskets until a Bates three pointer with 39 seconds left gave the Eagles a 40-27 halftime lead.
Bates started the second the same way he finished the first - with a three pointer, but the Captains were able to cut into the margin to pull to within eight, at 45-37, with 15:11 remaining. A three pointer and layup from Bates upped the Eagle margin to 74-53 with 6:22 to go, but again UMW had to hold off a CNU run, as the margin dwindled to 80-72 with 1:22 left.Â

Jadon Burgess capped the scoring to give the Eagles their second win in the last three meetings with the Captains, 88-77.
Robinson led UMW with 25 points on 9-20 shooting, and Randall scored 21, going 9-13 from the floor. Bates made four three pointers in going 6-11 from the floor en route to 18 points, and White scored a big 10 points off the bench. Bates led with nine rebounds, and Robinson picked up six assists.
The Eagles shot 50% from the floor (31-62), making 9-23 three points shots, and went 17-23 from the free throw line. CNU shot 33.8% (22-65), making 8-24 three point attempts and 25-33 free throw attempts. UMW was outrebounded, 42-39.
UMW will be back in action on Wednesday, as the Eagles host Salisbury University at 7:00 p.m.
