UMW Men's Soccer Draws With Roanoke on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team drew with Roanoke on Wednesday afternoon in Salem, Va., 0-0.

The Eagles controlled possession all afternoon as they out-shot the Maroon by 18, 24-6. UMW's best chances in the first half came from Andrew Brittain in the 15', but his shot was saved by the Maroon keeper. Elliot Berg ripped a shot that was also saved in the 20'. Michael Lenhard had the best chance after a penalty was called in the box, but his PK was also saved by the Roanoke keeper just seconds later. Darragh Cahill had another chance to net a goal for UMW in the 25', but his chance also resulted in a save.

In the 51', Lenhard had another chance to score, but his shot resulted in a Roanoke team save before Cahill's next shot was saved 15 minutes later. In the 80', Berg had another shot on net before it resulted in another save. Caleb Perry recorded a pair of shots on net in the 86', but both ended up as saves and Berg had the final best chance in the 87', but it was also saved by the Roanoke keeper.

The Eagles took 10 shots on goal, meanwhile Roanoke had just three, but all were saved by keeper Johnathan Irani as he posted his first career shutout.

UMW is back in action on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. against Marymount.
