The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team fell to Salisbury on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va., 2-0, after a pair of second half goals.
The Eagles came out in the first half and played the Sea Gulls evenly as Salisbury only out-shot UMW by a pair of goals, 6-4. The Eagles had three solid chances to put the ball in the back of the net as
Michael Lenhard had a shot saved just four minutes into the game.
In the 31st minute,
Christian Rodriguez put a ball on net, but that was also saved by the Salisbury keeper. And finally, seven minutes later, Rutley Heniemann had a shot that was also saved by the keeper.
In the second half, though, Salisbury controlled possession as it took 13 shots, while the Eagles had just four. The Sea Gulls had a chance on eight consecutive corner kicks mid-way through the second half and finally punched a goal through in the 62'. The Sea Gulls then scored once more in the 82' to put the game away.
The Eagles' best chance came just a few seconds into the half when
Elliot Berg's header was saved by the keeper.
