The sixth ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team defeated Mary Baldwin University, 96-49, on Monday afternoon at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 15-1 on the season, equaling last season's win total, and run their win streak to six straight.
The Eagles started Monday cold from the field, trailing 7-4 3:43 into play. A
Kye Robinson three pointer knotted the score and kick started a 16-3 Eagle run, with five players scoring in the stretch to give the Eagles a 20-10 lead at the midway point of the first half. UMW extended the lead to 34-14, thanks in part to eight straight points from junior
Jadon Burgess, and held a 37-22 advantage at halftime.
In the second, a 10-0 run by UMW upped the lead to 55-26, and the Eagles continued to hit shots, shooting a blistering 71% from the floor in the second half to pull away.Â
Burgess led the Eagles with 18 points, making 4-6 three point attempts, and added four rebounds. Robinson scored 16 points on 6-9 shooting and added five rebounds and four assists. Junior
Jay Randall posted a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, and first year guard
Anthony Lewis added 10 points while connecting on all four of his field goal attempts.
Mary Washington shot 58.7% from the field in the game (37-63), making 12-25 three point attempts and 10-12 free throws. Mary Baldwin shot 33.3% (18-54), making 7-25 three point tries and 6-11 free throws. UMW held a 39-26 rebounding advantage.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, when they visit Penn State-Abington at 1:00 p.m.
