The University of Mary Washington volleyball team gained its first win of the season in splitting a pair of matches on Saturday in Lexington, Va. The Eagles fell to Southern Virginia University, 3-0, before topping St. Mary's College, 3-0, in the nightcap.
The Eagles dropped the opener to the Knights, 25-15, 25-15, 25-12.
Alice Holoubek,
Sarah Starling, and
Sierra Hunt each recorded four kills to lead the Eagles, while
Olivia Fortier posted 10 assists and
Sydney Aiken added 10 digs.
UMW bounced back to top St. Mary's, 25-16, 26-24, 25-19. Senior
Avery Gallahue scored 11 kills against one error in 14 attempts, while Holoubek added 10 kills against two errors in 19 attempts, as well as six block assists. Fortier led the way with 17 assists and three aces, and Aiken and
Calla Petz each recorded seven digs in a balanced attack.
UMW will return to action next Saturday as the Eagles host Marymount University and Virginia Wesleyan University for a tri match, with the first match starting at noon.
