The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Marymount University, 3-0, in the opener of a tri-match on Saturday at Ron Rosner Arena. Game scores were 25-23, 26-24, 25-22.
The Eagles' balanced attack saw
Sarah Starling lead with eight kills, while
Avery Gallahue added seven and
Sierra Hunt six. First year
Olivia Fortier posted 16 assists and three aces, while
Maura Munson added eight assists, and
Sydney Aiken added four assists and four aces.Â
Gallahue added four total blocks, and Aiken led with 16 digs, while Fortier added 10. UMW hit .183, scoring 36 kills against 17 errors in 104 attacks.
The Eagles then fell to Virginia Wesleyan University, 3-0. Games scores were 25-15, 25-11, 25-21.
Mackenzie Williams led UMW with five kills, with Starling adding four. Fortier had eight assists and Munson seven, and
Avery Gallahue had four solo blocks. Aiken contributed 12 digs.
UMW will return to action on Wednesday, when the Eagles fly to Bridgewater College for a 7:00 match.
