UMW Women's Soccer Flies By NC Wesleyan With 4-0 Win

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team took down North Carolina Wesleyan in a 4-0 victory at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles had four different goal scorers as Katie Britton, Emily Box, Layla Royster, and Skye Lawhun all netted goals for UMW on Saturday.

The Eagles took 35 total shots throughout Saturday's game with 15 of them on net, meanwhile the Battling Bishops took just two shots.

Britton got the scoring started for Mary Washington in the 13th minute when a pair of passes from Cassidy Shaw and Maci Landel led the ball to Britton's left foot to the left of the goal. Britton wound up and fired, finding the back of the net for UMW for the first time on Saturday.

In the 30th minute, it was Elise McGee's pass to Box's head that netted Mary Washington its second goal of the afternoon, then in the 50th minute, Royster received a pass from Britton and scored the Eagles' third goal of the afternoon.

And in the 82nd minute, Skye Lawhun capped off UMW's scoring outburst with her second goal of the season to put the Eagles up, 4-0.

UMW controlled possession all afternoon long as it led in corners with eight and didn't allow the Battling Bishops to put up a shot on net.

Emily Orn and Kate Ronzoni combined to recorded UMW's fourth shutout in as many games this fall as UMW pushed its record to 4-0.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10 against Bridgewater in Bridgewater, Va. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
