The No. 9 University of Mary Washington men's soccer team had little trouble in its 5-0 victory over Regent on Friday night at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles received goals from five different scorers as three athletes scored their first career goals on Friday.
Moises Argueta-Garcia got the scoring party started with the Eagles' first goal just five minutes into action as
Sammy Amorose found Argueta-Garcia in the middle of the box. For Argueta-Garcia, it marked his first career goal for UMW.
Amorose then netted his second goal of the season just 17 minutes later to push UMW's lead to a pair of goals. Just before the end of the first half, UMW netted its third goal when
Tristan Kickbush lined up for a free kick at the top of the box. The ball was on-line for the net, but was deflected by the Royals' keeper before
Mason Landreth found the ball near his right foot and netted UMW's third goal.
In the second half, after nearly 30-minutes of scoreless action, the Eagles scored a pair of goals in the game's final 15 minutes.
Marvin Cabrera-Reyes netted his first career goal in the 76th minute before
Yahaya Abel found the back of the net eight minutes later to cap off the Eagles' offensive outburst.
For the game, Mary Washington out-shot Regent by 32, 35-3, and had 15 shots-on-goal compared to the Royals' two. The Eagles, too, led in corners, 7-4, and did not receive a card.
Mary Washington is back in action on Sunday at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. against No. 4 Washington & Lee.
