Scott, Royle Lead Thrilling UMW Field Hockey OT Win at Bridgewater

Senior Grayson Scott scored the tying goal with eight seconds left, and junior Katie Royle provided the game winner in overtime, as the University of Mary Washington field hockey team defeated Bridgewater College, 2-1, in thrilling fashion on Wednesday night in Bridgewater. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

The UMW Eagles dominated play throughout, outshooting the hosts, 24-1, on the night, but were unable to find the back of the cage throughout the opening 59:52. Bridgewater scored in the third quarter, but the Eagles scored on Scott's third goal of the young season with just eight seconds left. 

In overtime, Royle took a pass from junior Mackenzie Proffitt and provided the game winner, 1:47 into extra time, capping the night.

UMW led in penalty corners, 6-1. Eagle goalkeeper Tori WInans gained the win without a save.

The Eagles will return to action next Wednesday when they visit the University of Lynchburg, with a 6:00 p.m. first whistle.
