Box Score The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision at 15th ranked University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night. The Eagles slip to 2-1 on the season.
The homestanding Hornets opened the scoring in the second minute, but the Eagles found the tying score at 10:02, as junior
Mackenzie Proffitt scored on a
Monique Lipton assist.Lynchburg regained the lead 1:31 later, and carried a 2-1 advqantage to the second quarter.
UMW again found the tying goal, less than a minute into the second quarter, as senior Garyson Scott scored unassisted to knot the score once again.
The sc ore stood tied at halftime, but the Hornets tacked onone goal in the third quarter and a pair more in the fourth for the 5-2 victory.
Lynchburg led in shots, 22-7, as well as penalty corners, 11-3. UMW goalkeeper Tori WInans made nine saves on the day.
The Eagles will host 12th ranked Shenandoah University on Saturday at noon in the home opener.
