UMW Athletics Announces 29th Hall of Fame Induction Class

The University of Mary Washington Athletic Department is proud to announce the 29th Athletic Hall of Fame Induction class. Inductees include four-time swimming national champion Alex Anderson '15, men's lacrosse All-American Luke Dick '14, field hockey All-America selection Jen Freed '92, basketball standouts Jenna McRae '12 and Katie Wimmer '12, and the 1991 NCAA Tournament volleyball team.

Undoubtedly the most decorated athlete in Mary Washington athletics history, Anderson capped his brilliant swimming career with four individual national championships spanning 2013-15. Even more impressive, Anderson set new NCAA Division III records with his winning times in three of his four championships. In 2015, Anderson swam in three events at the NCAA Championships, breaking the existing NCAA Division III record in every event. The 2015 CAC Swimmer of the Year and UMW Male Athlete of the Year, Anderson finished his brilliant career with four national championships, and never finished worse than second in nine NCAA Championship finals.

A 2014 graduate, Dick became the first All-America selection in men's lacrosse history at the school, graduated as the program's all-time leader in points (196), was fourth in goals (109), and was first in assists (87). He led the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014, his senior season. He still ranks in the top ten in all three offensive categories, as well as career ground balls (159), season points, goals, and assists. In addition to second team All-America honors, he was also named a Scholar-Athlete All-America by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

Freed, the second field hockey All-America pick in program history, gained national honors in 1991, after leading the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. A standout defender, she still holds the UMW school record with 37 defensive saves in her career, and was named the first-ever Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1991, as the Eagles claimed the conference championship.

McRae and Wimmer gain induction together, fittingly, as the two gained eerily similar and outstanding careers in one of the best eras in women's basketball history at the school. The two, who graduated in 2012, both scored 1,383 career points (good for sixth in school history), both scored their 1,000th career points in the same game, and led the Eagles to a 30-1 record in advancing to the NCAA Tournament elite eight after a school-record 30-game win streak. The duo is two of only five players in program history to surpass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists, and 100 steals. In their four-year careers, UMW finished with an overall record of 95-19.

The 1991 volleyball team has proven over the decades to have been one of the great teams in any sport in school history. The Eagles of '91 finished with a 35-3 record, won the Capital Athletic Conference Championship, and advanced to the sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Their 35 victories are the most by any team in any sport in school history, and their NCAA Tournament win over 14th ranked Allegheny College in the first round was the first in program history. Individual UMW Hall of Famers Jay Wilson and Tamalyn Reed led the charge, as did all-region and all-conference hitter Cyndee Tector.

The induction will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the UMW Cedric Rucker University Center, at 3:30 p.m. Tickets will be available online prior to the event.
