The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at Ron Rosner Arena on Saturday, falling, 3-1, to sixth-ranked Washington & Lee University, and 3-0 to Gettysburg College. UMW slips to 4-13 on the season.
UMW opened the day with a hard-fought, well-played match against the Generals, 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18. The Eagles posted 45 kills, led by 12 from senior
Avery Gallahue and 10 from sophomore
Sarah Starling.Â
First year
Olivia Fortier posted 20 assists and three aces, while senior
Maura Munson added 17 helpers. Junior Sydney AIken led UMW with 26 digs, while Munson posted 17. Junior
Natalie Brown had four total blocks.
The Eagles then dropped a 25-16, 25-21, 25-20 match to Gettysburg. Gallahue led with nine kills, while Starling added seven and
Mackenzie Williams six. Fortier had nine assists and Munson eight, and Aiken added a pair of aces. Munson scored 13 digs, with
Julia Gustafson 12 and AIken 10.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Christopher Newport University in a matchup of Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference foes. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
