After a scoreless first two quarters, the University of Mary Washington field hockey team erupted for a pair of goals in the third quarter, and another in the fourth in a 3-0 victory at Denison University on Saturday morning in Granville, Ohio. The Eagles even their season record at 3-3.
After a scoreless first 30 minutes that saw the Eagles outshoot the Big Red, 8-1, UMW hit the back of the cage at 40:10, as senior
Lauren Boucher scored her first of the season, unassisted. Just 3:47 later, junior
Mackenzie Proffitt continued her early season scoring binge, finding her seventh of the season off a
Monique Lipton assist.
UMW gained a late insurance tally in the final minute, as junior
Katie Craddock scored her first goal of the season at 59:49.
The Eagles led in shots, 16-3, as well as penalty corners, 12-6. Junior goalkeeper
Tori Winans made one save in gaining the win and the shutout.
UMW will go to Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday for an 11:00 a.m. first whistle.
