The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Washington & Lee University on a rainy Wednesday evening at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 2-3 on the season.
It was the Eagles that dented the scoreboard first, as junior
Mackenzie Proffitt scored her sixth goal of the season 6:55 into the first quarter. Senior
Lauren Boucher made a hard cross from the right side, and Proffitt found the back of the cage to put the Eagles ahead.
The Generals answered at 8:24 to tie the score, and scored a pair of goals in the second quarter and another in the fourth quarter for the final margin of victory.
The Eagles led in shots, 17-9 (both teams had eight shots on frame), and also led in penalty corners, 11-7. UMW goalkeeper Tori WInans made four saves on the night.
UMW will return to action this weekend in Ohio, as the Eagles visit Denison University at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
