The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team had little trouble in its 2-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Va., downing the Marlins 2-0.
The Eagles controlled just about every minute of the game as they went up in the first half on
Elise McGee's second goal of the season after she received a pass from
Maci Landel, beating the Marlins' keeper. That's where the score stood in the first half as the Eagles dominated with a 13-2 shot advantage and 3-0 corners advantage.
In the second half it was more of the same for UMW as Landel found
Emily Box for the Eagles' second goal of the game to ice the victory. For Box, it was her second goal of the season.
The Eagles' offense was slowed down a tad in the second half after taking just a 4-2 advantage in shots after dominating in the first half. For the match, UMW led in shots (17-4), shots-on-goal (5-3), and corner kicks (3-2).
Emily Orn recorded her second shutout of the year after recording three saves in the victory to move her record to 5-1-0 in net.
The Eagles are back in action next Saturday against Methodist in Fayetteville, N.C. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
