The No. 24 University of Mary Washington men's soccer team fell in heartbreaking fashion to Washington College on Saturday afternoon, 3-2, in Chestertown, Md.
The Eagles got off to a hot start when
Sammy Amorose netted an early got just three minutes into the game after receiving a pass from
Gerry Valoyi to put UMW up by a goal, 1-0. And that's where the score stood heading into the half as Washington led in shots, 6-3.
In the second half, Mary Washington then scored early again when Amorose found
Elliot Berg for his second goal of the season in the 49th minute, but from there it was all Shoremen.
Washington netted three goals in the final 36 minutes to come away with the victory as it scored in the 55th minute, 59th minute, then the game-winner came in the 81st minute.
The Shoremen took 19 shots, compared to UMW's 11. The Eagles, though, led in shots-on-goal with six, while Washington had five. Both teams tied in corners with five apiece.
The Eagles are back in action against Lynchburg at Lynchburg at 7 p.m.
