Using two second half goals, the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team was able to come back and beat North Carolina Wesleyan after the Roy Gordon Field dedication at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
The Eagles fell behind by a goal in the 35th minute, despite outshooting the Battling Bishops, 7-2, in the first half -- three of which were on goal for UMW.
In the second half, though, the Eagles got their offense going with a pair of goals as
Sammy Amorose tied the match with his first goal of the season via an excellent feed from
Moises Argueta-Garcia in the 69th minute.
Then, Argueta-Garcia found the right man again in the 85th minute as he passed the ball up the field to
Elliot Berg, who took the ball nearly 25 yards by himself to beat NC Wesleyan's keeper and net the game-winning goal for Mary Washington.
The Eagles took 18 shots -- 10 on goal -- while NC Wesleyan had just five shots on Sunday. UMW controlled the offensive possession, too, picking up 12 corners compared to the Battling Bishop's one.
Tristan Kickbush recorded his first victory of the season in net for Mary Washington as he saved one shot.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday with a matchup against Regent in Fredericksburg, Va. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
